The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
